What is a Prometeo Coaching service?

A Professional Coaching service is a structured partnership designed to support a Client, team or organization in working toward defined objectives through greater awareness, responsibility, learning and action.

The Coach does not replace the Client’s decisions, prescribe solutions or act as a consultant. The Coaching process is designed to facilitate the Client’s ability to clarify objectives, examine options, recognize resources and make autonomous decisions.

The UNI 11601:2024 Technical Standard defines terminology, characteristics and requirements for the provision of Coaching services. The standard applies to Coaching services provided to individuals, groups and organizations and does not define the competencies of individual professional Coaches.

Why Prometeo Coaching

The name Prometeo comes from Prometheus, the figure in Greek mythology associated with bringing fire and knowledge to humankind.

For Prometeo Coaching, that idea translates into a professional principle: the objective of Coaching is not to create dependence on the Coach, but to support people and organizations in developing awareness, responsibility and the ability to act through their own resources and decisions.

Since 1997, Prometeo Coaching has developed its approach around four recurring principles:

• clear objectives agreed within the Coaching relationship;
• methodological rigor rather than motivational rhetoric;
• professional boundaries and clarity about what Coaching is and is not;
• verifiable processes and standards in the design and delivery of Coaching services.

Professional Coaching services: Life, Business and Sport

Prometeo Coaching provides Professional Coaching services in different application contexts while maintaining the same fundamental Coaching principles: clear agreements, Client responsibility, autonomy and focus on defined objectives.

Life Coaching

Life Coaching works with individual Clients on personal and professional objectives that fall within the scope of Coaching.

• clarification of personal and professional objectives;

• awareness of personal resources and strengths;
• development of responsibility and autonomy;
• professional and personal transitions;
• communication and relational objectives;
• priorities, organization and work-life objectives.

Life Coaching does not replace psychological or healthcare interventions when those are required.

Business Coaching

Business Coaching is applied within professional and organizational contexts and can involve entrepreneurs, managers, leaders, professionals and teams.

Business Coaching remains distinct from business consulting: the Coach facilitates the Coaching process without taking over the Client’s managerial or strategic decisions.

Sport Coaching

Sport Coaching applies Professional Coaching principles to athletes, coaches, teams and sports organizations.

• management of competitive pressure within the scope of Coaching;

Sport Coaching does not replace technical coaching, medical treatment, psychological intervention or other activities reserved for appropriately qualified professionals.

UNI 11601:2024 and CSQA certification

The UNI 11601:2024 Technical Standard is titled Coaching — Definition, characteristics and requirements of the service.

Its purpose is to define the terminology and characteristics of the Coaching service and to establish requirements for its provision, supporting both service providers and Clients in making informed choices.

The standard specifically concerns the Coaching service. It does not certify an individual Coach and does not certify a Coaching training course.

Prometeo Coaching first obtained certification for the design and delivery of Coaching services in 2018, under the then-current UNI 11601:2015 standard. Since then, certification has been maintained through the required periodic audits and subsequently updated to the current UNI 11601:2024 standard.

Italian Law 4/2013: what it means for Coaching

Professional Coaching in Italy operates within the broader framework of professions not organized into statutory professional orders or registers, governed by Italian Law 14 January 2013 No. 4.

The law does not establish a state register of Coaches and does not create a state license required to practise Coaching.

Professional associations may operate within the framework established by Law 4/2013 and may, when their requirements are met, issue a Quality and Professional Qualification Attestation to their members.

Membership in such an association and possession of the related Attestation are not legally required in order to practise the profession.

A.Co.I. recognition: a separate professional reference

Prometeo Coaching is also a Coaching School recognized by A.Co.I. – Associazione Coaching Italia, a professional association operating within the framework of Italian Law 4/2013.

This recognition concerns the professional education provided by the School and must be distinguished from the certification of Prometeo Coaching’s Professional Coaching services under UNI 11601:2024.

In other words:

• A.Co.I. → recognition relating to Professional Coach education and the Association’s professional framework;
• UNI 11601:2024 + CSQA → certification relating to Prometeo Coaching’s Coaching Projects and Services;
• Italian Law 4/2013 → general legal framework for professions not organized into statutory professional orders or registers.

Professional Coaching services and ICF are different matters

The certification of Prometeo Coaching’s Coaching services under UNI 11601:2024 is separate from the international education and credentialing system operated by ICF – International Coaching Federation.

Prometeo Coaching does not present its UNI certification as an ICF credential or ICF accreditation.

For professionals interested in developing an international ICF pathway, ICF-accredited Level 1 and Level 2 programs are available through the partnership with Vira Human Training.

Level 1 and Level 2 concern accredited Coach education. ACC and PCC are individual credentials awarded by ICF according to its own requirements and credentialing procedures.

Angelo Bonacci — Founder and Academic Director

Angelo Bonacci founded Prometeo Coaching in 1997 and has led its methodological and educational development since then.

His work has contributed to an approach centered on professional responsibility, clear Coaching boundaries, practical application and methodological consistency.

The relevant historical reference does not need to be recalculated every year: Prometeo Coaching has been operating in Professional Coaching and Professional Coach education since 1997.
